I made this strawberry pound cake.
A slice of ”Bienenstich” is one of my favourite bakery buys here in Berlin. It wasn’t something we’d ever had in our trips to Cologne. Smitten Kitchen has taken it on… and I happen to have everything I need on hand…
Side note: I do not like the way links now look in the dashboard. Same goes for videos.
Upon realizing what was happening in this picture, I let out a series of expletives, the likes of which hadn’t come out of my mouth since I worked on a daily news deadline. It’s a good thing the kids were already in bed since Luisa has reached the stage where she parrots everything we say. We might just have to introduce the kids to Passover (they do, afterall, have a Zaide) this year. Or I just might have to spend some time making a cake just for the sake of making this cake.
Because, really, since when do we need an excuse to make cake?
I made the @thesmitten’s gooey cinnamon squares and now I’m dead and sending this message from Heaven. It’s from her cookbook, but you’re in luck because David Lebovitz posted the recipe here.
I’m not saying that a warm brownie with a scoop of ice cream can reverse all effects of a weekend spent with a very sick little baby, but it certainly helps.
For new moms, have a good recipe handy. This is David Lebovitz’s gluten-free brownie. I use tapioca starch because I prefer it and toss in two tablespoons of unsweetened shredded coconut. And I also only use 100 grams of sugar. And I grind salt on top because everyone knows that’s what makes a brownie.
It has dates and I’m sure it will get you a date with a lumberjack. Lumberjacks love dates.
You guys. I have a problem. It’s these cookies. I am obsessed. The Wednesday Chef gets it so right when she writes that these are COOKIES. The first ones get gobbled up within minutes of coming out of the oven and they DEMAND to be washed down with a cold glass of milk. They are amazing. They are perfect.
These are the stuff cookie dreams are made of.
Because we all know it ain’t the only gourd in town these days… and I know I’m not the only one who has had it pumpkin and it’s ubiquitous spice.
Happy eating!
