Blue or greeny-yellow? Or, as Phil & Ted’s says: Sky or Golden Kiwi?
I’m giving in to a wagon that I can push both kids around. Yeah. I held out this long. So, which colour?

This thing. The “Bright Starts Start Your Senses Rattle a Round”*.We got it as a present from someone my mom used to work with for Luisa. She was a big fan of it in those early weeks when she would look around for something to catch her eye. It helped us get passport photos done and distract her from needles going into her thigh. And when she started grabbing things, she got this in her hands from the get go. And when things started going into her mouth, in the mouth this went.
She’s since moved on to more sophisticated toys, but there’s a new kid in town and, like his sister, he’s pretty into this rattle ring too. It’s about to get another life cycle.
*Why can’t it just be a rattle ring? Why make it about the senses? Baby toy marketing is such a scam.
spookstory asked: My "best" (whatever that means!) friend is pregnant and I'd like to give her something for her baby once he's there. I'm looking at one pieces and the usual baby clothes, but I assume that she will have tons of those by the time the baby is there. What is a super-awesome, super-practical thing I could get her? Totally trusting the Devins-Advice!
Hooray for babies!
The practical gift: When I was pregnant with Luisa, a friend gave me the Skip*Hop Pronto. It’s the best. I have a diaper bag, but I mostly use this. I thought it would get used less with two, but it doesn’t. It just gets overloaded. I’ve gifted it to other Mamas and have recommended it to others. It’s always a hit.
The souvenir gift: The Berliner Wimmelbuch. This book is awesome, for Berliners and non-Berliners alike.
The “traditional” gift: Sophie the Giraffe. We were gifted one and I’ve gifted Sophie many times over. She is so universally loved by babies to the point that its almost creepy.
A gift that parents would normally buy practically but you can gift a fun version: A baby bath towel with hood. There are so many sweet ones.
The cool toy: A sorgenfresser (a worry-eater?). Sure they’re for older kids, but how cool would it be to tell a baby that their little monster has been eating away their worries since they were a tiny little babe.
And if you want to give clothes, give her something from shops you don’t find in Germany but do ship here. I’m currently lusting over everything from Lindex and you can still get Baby Gap online.
Was I actually supposed to be able to resist this little plaid-lined jean jacket with a sheepskin collar on sale for half price for my little man to wear next fall?
No? Great. I’m glad we agree.
On another note: Today was one of those rare days that the UPS delivery came when I was actually home. Hurray for small miracles.
On my to-do list: This printable owl calendar from My Owl Barn. And it’s free!

Kids spam!
Thanks to Emily, I discovered BabyNamer.com. Of course I looked up my own kids names and gave myself a high five when the drawbacks category on Mateo came up empty. Luisa didn’t fare so badly either.
This is not the new baby.
This is Luisa. On her first day in this world. And when I feel blah and super pregnant and whiny that I do not get to be one of those mothers with timely ends to her pregnancies, I think of this day, her first day, which happened eight days after the “due date”. Those eight days were misery. Really miserable. But on this day, the preceding seven were quickly forgotten.
I’m not happily still pregnant, but I know that soon enough, I’ll get to revisit this feeling of newborn wonder. And I’m excited for that.
So, seriously, bring it on.
