If you need me today...
… I’ll be home, delighting in the fact that I can finally download Harry Potter books onto my Kindle and re-reading them. Perfect timing since I just finished Esi Edugyen’s Half Blood Blues last night and was just wondering what to read next. And you should totally read that book too. It’s a delight.

What I learned today:
Homemade pudding from scratch is a million times better than anything that can come from a package. I will never make package pudding again. Here’s what I did:
Whisk together 1/3 cup sugar, 1 pinch salt and 2 tbsp+1 1/2 tsp corn starch
Add 1/3 cup cream* and whisk together to make a smooth paste
Whisk in 1 and 2/3 cups whole milk.
Cook over high medium, stirring constantly, until...

Bye bye Mama
My mom left this afternoon and it was sad. Her visit was just a week long, but it was one so very much needed. Luisa had the best time ever. My Mama had the best time ever with her, and I like to think that she even enjoyed some of my company too.
It didn’t hurt that Josh and I got a night out in the week too.
It won’t be long before I see her again. She’ll be back here with...

Kony vs. al-Assad →
Here’s a puzzle. A video calling for international action to capture Joseph Kony, a Ugandan guerilla who commands a couple hundred men and has killed 151 civilians during the past year, has been viewed by a whopping 76 million people on Youtube. Meanwhile, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad — who boasts 600,000 men under arms, along with almost 5,000 battle tanks, and who often kills...

Guest post: Joseph Kony is not in Uganda (and... →
It would be great to get rid of Kony. He and his forces have left a path of abductions and mass murder in their wake for over 20 years. But let’s get two things straight: 1) Joseph Kony is not in Uganda and hasn’t been for 6 years; 2) the LRA now numbers at most in the hundreds, and while it is still causing immense suffering, it is unclear how millions of well-meaning but...
