DDAY
Its a day I circled on a calendar at the beginning of April. I turned the calendar to November a month ago and started shaking when I saw the giant bold DDAY circled and exclamation-marked. You know there’s a good chance that this day will come and go with your first baby, but you still can’t help but countdown to it. Everything has been contingent on this day.
Then it comes. Then it...

Kim Jong-il looking at things.
Can I just say this was long overdue?

emilyposts asked: Hi Baby! It's only four days until you might be here. It's a little strange to be anticipating your arrival via internet as much as I am, but I check every day to make sure your mama is still around so I don't miss anything. I wish I could smell your sweet little newborn skin. I really wish I could come to Berlin and squeeze your toes. Your about to come into the big bad world and I...

"Stains LIFT OFF with ease"
This was the slogan on a Tide commercial on the Pakistan plane crash story on the CBC when I clicked on it earlier. The “lift off” was written in all capitals and much bigger than the rest of the ad’s words. I tried to get a screen grab but hit the wrong buttons instead.
The bad part? The plane crash happened minutes after take off. Or lift off.

"Fruits of labour"
I’m pretty sure whoever coined this phrase was referring to pomegranate.

Passive smoking 'kills 600,000' worldwide →
Slow news day? This top story on the BBC international website cites that this information is “just released”, but its based on a study done in 2004.
Yes, that’s six-year-old data making the top story of the day.

On trusting your body
More baby posts. I know. I’m obsessed. You would be too if you were SIX days away from this date on a calendar that you circled eight months ago.
Kristen and Laney are both moms-to-be a few weeks into their roller coaster journey. I wish I could say that those days are behind me, but they aren’t. They were, but they’re back. I freak out about labour. Not actual labour, but more...

North Korean artillery hits South Korean island →
Either Kim Jong-il wanted to make some really, really, really realistic special effects for his latest film indulgence or shit is about to hit the fan.
Let’s hope this doesn’t escalate.

Edible gift idea: Chai tea mix →
I’ve just made the French Apple Cake I posted a while ago, and this will be next… though I’m not sure if any of it will find its way into “gift” status.
My “nesting” has gone from manifesting itself in the form of craftyness into the form of cookery. My freezer can’t handle much more of it…
messily asked: So does "baby wall" mean that you'll all be sharing a room? Is this more common in Germany, do you think? Every American baby book I've read goes on and on about the nursery/baby's room and never even mentions that there could be alternatives — but for those of us in tiny city apartments, I think (and hope) there are, at least at first.

emilyposts replied to your post: Where is baby Emily? That is her name, right?
Hurry up, Baby! I want to meet you! What about Miley?? That’s a great name too!
I’m not sure whether or not to take the suggestion of “Miley” seriously.
Wait. I lied. I won’t be taking that seriously… (though maybe the name Destiny Hope?)

... and its down to me
When we came back from Canada in August, I had a bit of a panic. While we were away, our friends with a baby moved back to Canada. I had no “mommy friends”. Who was going to give me tips and tricks and help me figure out all the German paperwork to make sure Baby Devins was in line with her birthland’s bureaucratic needs?
I was lucky. I found some quickly. Even some who were...

melski replied to your post: Cue the sadtrombone.com
keep em.
Oh I thought of that.
Unfortunately, so did the flower delivery man and he left a note in the absent neighbours’ mail box. She was at my door just as I returned home from yoga.

Cue the sadtrombone.com
This morning the door buzzed and I hurriedly stumbled out of bed (x100 harder for those of us with a belly in the way), hopped into my pyjama pants (see previous note) to see who was there. We recently ordered some baby things online, so I assumed it was DHL with an armful of goodies for us (by us, I mean the baby).
Instead it was a flower delivery man!
I brightened for a moment and then he...

Verpixelungsrecht
German is an awesome language because you can make up words that make sense.
Example: Verpixelungsrecht
What does it mean? The right to be pixelated (in the context of Google Street View).
Read what Jeff Jarvis has to say about Germans and their Verpixelungsrecht.
